The birch, a genus of plants within the birch family, is widely distributed across Europe and Eurasia, excluding southern Europe and northern Scandinavia. Birch leaves are rich in essential oils, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic carboxylic acids and triterpene alcohols, while the bark has a distinctive white colour due to its high betulin content. Betulin plays a crucial role in shielding the tree from harsh environmental conditions and pests.
