The Mexican wild yam (Dioscorea villosa) is a tropical climbing plant with heart-shaped leaves, tiny green flowers and a thick, fleshy rhizome. It can grow up to 6m high. The wild yam is mainly cultivated in West and Central Africa, Haiti and Colombia. The yam needs plenty of sun and fertile soil in order to grow. The wild yam is particularly interesting due to its remarkable content of diosgenin, a substance which, like sex hormones, is a steroid. The root is particularly appreciated by women due to its ingredients.

How are we different?
Our yam extract (Dioscorea villosa) is obtained exclusively from the above-ground parts of the plant. The valuable ingredients are then extracted using only water and ethanol and never come into contact with other solvents or extracting agents such as acetone or methanol. The standardised process produces a high-quality extract with a guaranteed content of 20% diosgenins.
The only other ingredient we use is pure natural premium gum arabic grown without pesticides. In contrast to the usual synthetic filler microcrystalline cellulose, which is mixed with nanoparticles, we use a natural, high-fibre food. The soluble fibre serves as a food source for bifido- and lactobacteria in the intestine. Our gum arabic comes from climate-neutral, sustainable, resource-conserving and fair cultivation.
For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.
