We source this essential oil from a renowned and certified producer located in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France. The company was founded in the early 20th century and today partners with several essential oil crop farms worldwide, ranging from small farms to much larger producers. The plants' origins and qualities are well monitored, and production on these farms is passionate and adheres to the strict quality standards. After harvesting, the plants are either cold pressed or gently steam distilled in a stainless steel tank to release their essential oils. Their first certified organic products date back to 2001.
Rosemary
Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus/Rosmarinus officinalis) belongs to the sage family (Lamiaceae). The Latin name Rosmarinus is derived from the words for "ros" (dew) and "marinus" (sea), which literally means "dew of the sea" and refers to its origin in the Mediterranean region. Following a 2017 study which uncovered the similarities between the characteristics of rosemary and sage, the plant was officially designated a Salvia. The aromatic evergreen, growing up to 1.5m high and 1.5m wide, bears purplish blue and white flowers in spring and is adored by bees, butterflies and other pollinators. The terroir in which rosemary grows has a strong influence on the plant's development of aromatic compounds, resulting in distinct chemotypes (ct.) of rosemary such as cineole, camphor, alpha-pinene and verbenone.
Aroma
Rosemary has powerful and complex top notes that bring to mind the smell of a forest, with a freshness that is also medicinal, woody, herbaceous and slightly minty. These fresh top notes quickly dissipate to give way to a clean, woody, balsamic heart note that fades into very pleasant and lingering dry, tart, bittersweet base notes. This oil refreshes, brightens the spirit, awakens the senses, sharpens the mind and strengthens the ability to concentrate.
