The peppermint plants are organically cultivated in their native region of India, which provides them with optimal growing conditions. The warmth and humidity of this tropical climate, as well as its nutrient-rich soil and occasional dryness, allow the plants to develop their aromas and other valuable compounds, including menthol and 1,8-cineole, in a harmonious ratio. After harvest, the fresh plants are carefully selected and gently steam distilled at an on-site distillery.
We source this essential oil from a renowned and certified producer located in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France. The company was founded in the early 20th century and today owns several essential oil crop farms worldwide, where the plants' origin and quality are well monitored. Production on these farms is passionate and adheres to the strict quality standards set by the French organic certification body EcoCert. After harvesting, the plants are either cold pressed or gently steam distilled in a stainless steel tank to release their essential oils.
Peppermint, along with spearmint and wild mint, belongs to the Lamiaceae family and grows primarily in damp areas in the Northern Hemisphere. The mint (Mentha) genus comprises about 30 known species.
Peppermint is a hardy perennial plant that can grow up to 100cm tall. The oil glands which hold the plant's essential oils are partly visible on the underside of its light to dark green leaves. Its flowers range in colour from white to purple and bloom from June through September.
The refreshing, strong aroma is said to have an invigorating, energising effect. Said to be helpful for managing stress, tension and mental exhaustion.
