The orange trees thrive on a certified organic farm located on the Mediterranean island of Sicily. In this warm climate, with Mediterranean winds and plenty of sunshine, the trees have optimal growing conditions which allow for the full development of their aromas, including alpha- and beta-pinene, in a balanced ratio. The fruits are carefully hand-harvested throughout the year. After having been sorted and cleaned, the fresh peels are cold-pressed on-site.
We source this essential oil from a small, family-run producer based in Sicily. The company was founded in the 1970s and specialises in the cultivation of citrus fruits. They first began cultivation according to organic standards in 2002, but have adapted and expanded their land since then. The mineral-rich soils and the Mediterranean climate, as well as the producer's many years of experience, combine to create high-quality essential oils. The essential oils are extracted via cold pressing in our own facility, and are certified organic.
The orange belongs to the Rutaceae family. The orange is a rounded shrub with 5-15cm long, oval-shaped leaves. In spring, its fragrant white flowers, which measure around 4cm in size, bloom. The flowers then develop into oranges, measuring up to 10cm in diameter by winter. The orange is endemic to South East Asia, but is now also often cultivated in the Mediterranean region.
The fruity-sweet aroma promotes feelings of joy and serenity, and helps with winding down.
