The myrrh tree (Commiphora myrrha) thrives endemically in the western region of Somalia. The desert-like extreme conditions of the open Acacia, Commiphora scrubland, characterized by heat and drought, induce the formation of its natural constituents such as curzerenes, furanoeudesma-1,3-dienes, lindestrene and beta-elemenes. The valuable resin is periodically collected by hand from the gnarled trunks by the experienced workers. The resin is gently distilled with steam to produce this very aromatic essential oil. The long experience, the special manufacturing process, as well as the passion of the distillers are visible in the authentic aroma of this myrrh oil.

This essential oil is sourced from a renowned and certified producer based in Valréas in northern Provence, France. The company was founded in 1980 and owns several essential oil plantations and farms all over the world. The origin and quality of the plants are well documented, and the company ensures that the highest standards are maintained and works professionally and passionately to produce excellent essential oils.

The oils are produced from freshly harvested plant materials via steam distillation. The experienced producers use a very gentle distillation method with low water pressure, which allows for the near complete extraction of the plants' valuable phytochemicals. Their products are certified organic according to French EcoCert standards.

The myrrh tree Commiphora myrrha belongs to the balsam family (Burseraceae) and originates from eastern Africa, such as Yemen, Ethiopia and Somalia. The shrub or squat tree with a growth height of up to four meters thrives on poor soils and forms small leathery leaves on the thorny branches. Before the rainy season, fine pink to yellow flowers grow, from which fruits develop after fertilization. The liquid exudate, which has little aroma, spontaneously emerges from the bark, giving rise to the hard, translucent, yellowish gum resin. Already in ancient times, the fragrant resin was in great demand, along with incense, as an incense and perfume.
