Frankincense
The frankincense tree belongs to the balsam family (Bruseraceae). Boswellia carterii is found in semi-desert areas of Arabia, Somalia and Ethiopia. It is a small tree with a sturdy trunk and papery, flaking, brownish bark. The flowers are whitish in single or branched racemes, the fruits have a triangular capsule. Frankincense, also known as olibanum, is obtained as a milky white emulsion by cutting into trunks and thick branches and hardens to resin in the air. Frankincense was traditionally used by various peoples for ritual and religious purposes.
Aroma
The fresh and resinous scent of frankincense has a clarifying and uplifting effect. Its light, sweet notes offer a sense of security and create space for inspiration.
