Frankincense
Frankincense trees belong to the Burseraceae family. Boswellia carterii is found in the semi-desert areas of Somalia, Ethiopia and the Arabian Peninsula. Also known as olibanum, the small trees have whitish flowers, triangular fruits, strong trunks and papery, flaky, brownish bark. Frankincense, which is a resin, is obtained by making cuts in the trees' trunks and thick branches. In reaction, the tree releases milky, white sap which hardens into resin when exposed to air. Historically, frankincense has been used by different peoples in ritual and religious contexts.
Aroma
The fresh and resinous scent of frankincense has a clarifying and uplifting effect. Its light, sweet notes offer a sense of security and create space for inspiration.
