Flos Olei

There are a host of important national and international olive oil competitions across the world from New York to Tokyo and in places traditionally associated with olive oil such as Italy and Spain. Among all of these competitions, the Italian Flos Olei guide is one of the most prominent and has become a point of reference for judging the world's best olive oils. Each year the 500 best oils are given grades out of 100. There are additionally 20 clearly defined award categories ranging from the oil itself, to certain characteristics, the labour, and method of cultivation. The editorial team consists of certified and experienced Italian olive oil tasters as well as their international network.

Flos Olei has recognised Fattoria Ramerino's extraction system as currently the best in the world. Since 2016 the Fattoria Ramerino has been listed among the top 20 olive oil producers worldwide.

Olive farm

While the Fattoria Ramerio is a relatively young enterprise, the outstanding quality of its olive oils has already earned it a place among the best olive farms in Italy. In addition to receiving 99 points from Flos Olei, they were also awarded the "Best in Class Award" in New York and the "Marco Mugelli Award" in Los Angeles in 2020. Standing on ancient terrain, which is home to some centuries-old olive trees, the organic cultivation methods contribute to the outstanding quality and the incomparable flavour of the Fattoria Ramerino olive oils.

Region and Processing

Fattoria Ramerino is located in the mountains south of Florence in the heart of Tuscany. The area between Chianti and Valdorno is famous for its wines and olives, and has been a centre of agriculture since Roman times. Today the main natural products of the region are wine and olive oil. The farm is located in a valley basin 250m below sea level with optimal sun and ideal growing conditions.

The 50 hectares of land are home to roughly 5,500 olive trees of which some are several centuries old. Traditionally cultivated varieties include the Tuscan Moraiolo, Frantoio, Leccino, and Americano.

The olive grove is organically maintained. All fertilisers are completely natural, the grass is only occasionally mowed during dry periods, and the trees are kept healthy only via trimming and other natural methods. The farm has been certified organic since 2004.
