Flos Olei

There are a host of important national and international olive oil competitions across the world from New York to Tokyo and in places traditionally associated with olive oil such as Italy and Spain. Among all of these competitions, the Italian Flos Olei guide is one of the most prominent and has become a point of reference for judging the world's best olive oils. Each year the 500 best oils are given grades out of 100. There are additionally 20 clearly defined award categories ranging from the oil itself, to certain characteristics, the labour, and method of cultivation. The editorial team consists of certified and experienced Italian olive oil tasters as well as their international network.

Azienda Agricola Pruneti is one of the most highly decorated farms in Italy. Over the years, it has consistently won many of the most prestigious awards and has been ranked among the top 20 olive farms in the Flos Olei guide.

Olive farm

The Pruneti family business has been in existence for over 160 years. It is located in the heart of Tuscany, in the Chianti region, which is famed for its wines. At Pruneti, the invaluable knowledge gained from the family tradition is combined with state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge research in order to extract the full flavour of the olives. Earth, air, water and fire: the four elements are at the core of the Pruneti spirit.

Region and Processing

The family-operated Pruneti olive farm is located in the heart of Tuscany, in the region of Chianti, also famous for its wines. The advantageous microclimate and the richness of the soil ensure that the olive trees in Chianti produce exceptional oil.

For over 160 years, the olive farm Pruneti has been a family affair. Invaluable knowledge and tradition have been passed down from generation to generation, and are combined with the most up-to-date technologies and research. The oil is made from the over 28,000 olive trees growing on the 80ha farm. The cultivated varieties include only the local cultivars Leccino, Moraiolo, and Frantoio.

Cultivation and processing take place according to the highest technical and quality standards. All olives are harvested by hand. The olives are then ground within 4 hours of harvest on-site at the farm's mill, which uses individualised settings for each variety of oil. As a result, Pruneti produces a great variety of premium oils that differ by flavour, aroma, and character.
