The ylang ylang trees used for this essential oil grow under controlled organic conditions on the island of Nosy Be in the tropical north of Madagascar. With its oceanic climate, tropical temperatures and mineral soils, the region offers optimal growing conditions. This allows the trees to develop their natural aromatic compounds, such as benzyl acetate and germacrene, in a harmonious balance. The flowers are gently harvested by hand throughout the year and carefully distilled with steam using a gently, sustainable process. This essential oil is distilled within six hours to retain as many natural substances as possible. As a 2nd fraction essential oil, it contains slightly volatile and heavier floral aromas with a slightly deeper and slightly sweeter aroma than 1st fraction essential oil. Ylang ylang trees thrive in tropical and subtropical forests from India to Australia, as well as islands in the Pacific and Indian Ocean, including Comoros and Madagascar. These exotic plants belong to the family of annonaceous plants (Annonaceae). The sprawling tree, which grows up to 20m high, has pendulous, curved branches, with medium to dark green leaves. In autumn, it produces hanging clusters of highly fragrant yellow flowers that contain the plant's special aromas. The essential oil is distilled in six stages, producing different distillates (Extra Superieur, Extra, I, II, III, Complete) each with a different aroma. In addition, there is an ylang ylang VOP 'Very Old Process', which represents the original distillation of this oil.
