The sandalwood trees are grown organically in a controlled manner near the towns of Beragala and Diyaluma in Sri Lanka. There they thrive at elevations of 300 to 1000 metres above sea level. The aromatic heartwood of sandalwood trees is usually harvested when they are around 15 to 20 years old. After harvesting, the wood is taken to the company's own distillery, the heartwood is separated out, shredded and processed with steam to produce this finely aromatic essential oil. The flavours are developed in a harmonious ratio and contain 70% α- and β-santalols. Z-α-trans-bergamotol and epi-β-santalol are also found in the natural components of the oil.

Sandalwood tree
The sandalwood genus (Santalaceae) is comprised of 16-20 species that are native to tropical regions of India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and the Pacific islands. The sandalwood belongs to the so-called semi-parasites, which means it needs a host plant to draw water and nutrients from. The white sandalwood (Santalum album) is native to the tropical regions of Asia and has been cultivated in Western Australia since the late 1990s. The evergreen tree can reach a height of 4 to 20 metres. Its leaves grow up to 8cm long and red-purple flowers form every 3-4 years. White sandalwood is highly prized for its aroma and is used for cosmetics, perfumes, incense and wood art. The Vedic tradition of India uses sandalwood for ceremonial purposes and to purify sacred places.
Aroma
The soothing woody-sweet aromas calm and strengthen the nerves and lead to inner harmony. The strongly centring properties of the aroma are ideal for meditation.
