Bitter Orange Oil

100% pure natural essential oil of Citrus aurantium var. amara. This petitgrain bitter orange essential oil comes from a small, certified organic farm in Khémssit, Morocco. The bitter orange tree, which is native to this region, finds optimal growing conditions in this desert-like landscape. In particular, the stimulating climate with constant changes between very cold nights and hot, dry winds during the day stimulates the concentrated formation of valuable ingredients such as linalyl acetate, linalool, α-terpineol and complex flavours in the bitter orange. The oil is extracted by steam distillation directly after harvesting on the farm in compliance with the highest quality standards. As a result of their many years of experience, the distillers use a deliberately gentle distillation process with low water pressure, which leads to an almost complete extraction of the valuable plant substances.

The bitter orange tree belongs to the Rutaceae family. It is a spiny evergreen tree with a round crown, and grows up to 10m tall. It bears white flowers from late spring to summer, from which its fruits then begin to grow. The fruits are spherical, orange in colour, and have rough skin and bitter flesh. The tree is native to South East Asia as well as the Mediterranean region, but is now cultivated in other appropriate climates, including in Madagascar. The aromas can be found in the fruit peels, as well as the flowers (neroli) and leaves (petitgrain).
