The tamarack originally comes from the north of North America and can be found throughout Canada. The origin of this essential oil is found in wild larch trees in the province of Québec. This region is characterised by a continental climate with strong temperature fluctuations, from +20C in the short summers to -40C in winter. These extreme climatic conditions cause the trees to develop complex natural aromas such as α-pinene, Δ3-carene, β-pinene, bornyl acetate, β-pinene, myrcene and camphene. The production of the essential oil, as a sustainable by-product of the timber industry, is regulated by a precise and strict legal framework of the province of Québec. The exclusively fresh branches and needles are collected between July and September, crushed and distilled immediately after harvesting using gentle steam to produce this aromatic essential oil with the aroma of fresh conifers.

The tamarack (Larix laricina) originates from northern North America and can be found on moist, light and well-drained soils throughout Canada. The tree grows to a height of around 20 metres and produces soft, supple, light green needles, which turn a bright yellow in autumn before falling off. The cones of the larch are less than 2 cm long and can remain on the tree for a year. During the flowering period, the flowers of the male cones are yellow and those of the female cones are pink. The wood of this larch species is hard, heavy and moisture-resistant and is ideal for making shingles, boats and railway ties, among other things. The indigenous people of Canada traditionally use many parts of the tree for medicinal purposes: to heal wounds, rheumatism or colds.
