The Jack pine grows endemically in the boreal coniferous forest in the Canadian region of the Québec province. This region is characterised by a continental climate with strong temperature fluctuations, from +20C in the short summers to -40C in winter. These extreme climatic conditions cause the trees to develop complex, natural aromas such as α- and β-pinene, bornyl acetate, δ3-carene and camphene. The production of the essential oil, as a sustainable by-product of the timber industry, is regulated by a precise and strict legal framework of the province of Québec. The exclusively fresh branches and needles are collected between May and October, crushed and distilled immediately after harvesting with gentle steam to produce this aromatic woody-resinous, balsamic essential oil.

Jack pine
The Jack pine (Pinus banksiana) belongs to the pine family (Pinaceae), which is endemic to northern North America. This type of pine was named after the well-known British botanist Sir Joseph Banks, who explored the botany of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1766. The Banks pine grows to a height of around 20 metres and is characterised by the irregular growth of its branches due to its preferred location on barren, sandy soils. The yellow-green needles are 2-4 cm long and the thin bark is red-brown to grey when young and dark brown in older trees. The pine cones open in high heat, i.e. under the influence of fire, the tree disperses its seeds within a radius of 100 metres. The Native Americans used the resin to seal canoes and in various medicinal applications.
Aroma
The deeply aromatic balsamic aroma relaxes, calms and invigorates at the same time. It increases focus and concentration. The aroma, reminiscent of fresh forest air, is ideal for yoga practice and supports focus during learning.
