The Katrafay trees for this essential oil grow endemically near the sea in the pristine nature of southern Madagascar. The oceanic, tropical climate of this region offers the trees ideal conditions for the harmonious development of natural aromas and ingredients, such as ishwarane, beta-selinene or alpha-copaene.

The bark is cut and collected in a traditional way by local women and brought to the farm. To produce the essential oil, the bark is distilled using the gentle process of steam distillation. Low water pressure and therefore very slow distillation ensure that the valuable ingredients of the katrafay are almost completely extracted.

Farm

This essential oil comes from a passionate producer who owns an EcoCert-certified organic farm near the coast in south-east Madagascar, where a variety of aromatic plants are cultivated. The plants are grown in harmony with nature and, as far as possible in a tropical climate, according to the principles of biodynamic cultivation methods. The farm's distilleries are self-built and have been designed and built in the harmonious proportions of the golden ratio. Mindfulness in dealing with nature and the production process is reflected in the high-quality essential oils. In addition, the manufacturer is involved in self-initiated social projects in his region, builds and supports schools there and gives tree seedlings, which are grown on his farm, to the local population to grow for firewood.

Katrafay

The Katrafay tree (Cedrelopsis grevei) belongs to the rue family (Rutaceae). It grows endemically in dry, semi-dry or subtropical regions of Madagascar and reaches a height of up to 29 metres. Its leaves as well as the grey-green-orange coloured bark are aromatic. Katrafay is one of Madagascar's most important traditional medicinal plants and is used in a variety of ways, e.g. for respiratory diseases, rheumatism, headaches and aching limbs or wound infections. Women traditionally use the water boiled from the bark for intimate cleansing after giving birth.

Aroma

The woody and spicy notes convey a feeling of inner strength and security, and the enveloping, calming fragrance qualities can provide access to very deep emotions.
