These cardamom plants are grown in the central mountainous region of Sri Lanka at an altitude of over 600 meters. The tropical climate, temperatures between 10 and 25 degrees, high rainfall of 1500-2500 mm per year and loamy soils provide the ideal conditions to develop the particularly fine aromas of cardamom. Between September and December, the seed stalks are carefully harvested by hand and the aromatic essential oil is extracted with gentle steam. The oil contains mainly alpha-terpinyl acetate and 1,8-cineole.
We obtain this essential oil from a renowned and certified producer in the Provençal countryside Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in France. The company was founded around 1900 and has worldwide cooperation partners, small to large farms with essential oil plants, where according to quality standards is produced professionally and passionately. The origin and quality of the plants are therefore very well documented. The essential oils are extracted on site either by gentle steam distillation in a stainless steel tank or by cold pressing. The first certified organic products date back to 2001.
Cardamom (Eletteria cardaomum) belongs to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) and has its original home in the southwest of the Indian subcontinent. The perennial herbaceous plant reaches a growth height of 2 to 4 meters. Of particular note is that the rispy inflorescence, from which the aromatic seed pods develop, grows just above the ground from a side shoot. Tropical rainforests at altitudes of 800 to 1,500 meters provide the ideal growing conditions. The very aromatic seeds contained in the green capsule fruits are dried after harvesting and are used as a valued spice in cooking and Ayurvedic medicine.
Its balsamic, subtly mint-scented freshness leads to a clearing of the mind while gently calming the body, enabling it to concentrate.
