The ginger is cultivated at an elevation of around 1,000m in central Madagascar, where the sunny, tropical climate and nutrient-rich soils offer optimal growing conditions for the plants. The roots are hand-harvested between May and November by local farmers, who are both passionate and experienced. The roots are cleansed and grated, then processed via steam distillation for around four to five hours in our own distillery, and under strict quality standards. The essential oil contains alpha-zingiberene, ar-curcumere and beta-phellandrene.

Farm
We source this essential oil from a cooperative founded around 2005, and based in the heart of Madagascar. The cooperative unites a number of small farms located all around the country, which either cultivate the various plants in their optimal climatic conditions or hand-harvest them from the wild. Following harvesting, the oils are processed on-site via steam distillation. The oils are produced according to EU organic standards, and have the EU organic seal.
Ginger
True ginger comprises about 60 different species and belongs to the ginger (Zingiberaceae) family. It most likely originated in India and is now cultivated in other tropical and subtropical regions such as Madagascar. The plant can grow 50-100cm high, and forms thick stems and long, reed-like leaves, as well as flowers with yellow-red to dark purple flowers. The stem grows from the aromatic root and can reach up to 25cm in length.
Aroma
Ginger's tangy and pungent aroma has an energising and warming effect. It lifts the spirit, relieves mental exhaustion and promotes feelings of courage.
