How are we different?

Vitamin K2 occurs in a variety of molecular structures known as homologues which are named according to the length of the molecule's side chains (e.g., MK-4 or MK-7). The MK-7 form of vitamin K2 is currently considered the most effective: it remains active in the body for a particularly long time and is able to cover the functional K2 requirement of the body in relatively small doses.

The vitamin K2 MK-7 molecule itself also occurs in different geometries, of which only the trans isomer is biologically active. Vitamin K2 is designated "all-trans" when it consists of at least 98% trans isomers. K2VITAL®, a registered trademark of Kappa Bioscience AS from Norway, goes even further: this high-quality active ingredient consists of 100% vitamin K2 MK-7 trans isomers.

In order to achieve an even distribution of vitamin K2, and thus ensure precisely dosed capsules, the addition of a carrier is necessary: our formulation includes 100% non-nano microcrystalline cellulose as a carrier to prevent the usual active ingredient fluctuation between capsules.

The only other ingredient is premium gum arabic, cultivated without the use of plant protection products. In contrast to microcrystalline cellulose, a widely used synthetic filler often mixed with nanoparticles, gum arabic is a natural, fibre-rich food. Our fair trade gum arabic is climate neutral and is sustainably cultivated to conserve resources.

For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.

Effects

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is found in nature as vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and vitamin K2 (menaquinone), with vitamin K2 appearing to be the more active of the two forms. Phylloquinone is mainly found in plants, while menaquinone is produced by some human intestinal bacteria or is found in foods fermented by microorganisms, such as sauerkraut or the Japanese dish nattō.

Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 activates a range of special proteins in the body that play a role in important metabolic processes, including the transport and utilisation of calcium, blood clotting, the regulation of cell division, cell differentiation, cell migration and important repair processes in various vessels and organs. As far as their effects on the body, virtually every health authority currently treats the vitamins of the K group as one. Accordingly, statements released for vitamin K1 are also attributed to vitamin K2.

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), vitamin K contributes to:

  • normal blood clotting
  • the maintenance of normal bones

Vitamin K2 All-Trans MK-7 from Norway

Vitamin K2 exists in different forms, each of which has a different level of efficacy. Vitamin K2 MK-7 is today considered by far the most effective form of K2. Since vitamin molecules take different chemical forms (the so-called cis-trans isomers of vitamin K2), there are enormous differences even between different vitamin K2 MK-7 active substances. It is believed that only the trans forms can be utilised by the body.

Our original K2VITAL® vitamin K2 is one of the few commercial supplements that consists of 100% highly effective all-trans MK-7, guaranteed by Norwegian laboratory testing.

Vitamin K2 & Vitamin D

Vitamin K2 is the most important cofactor of vitamin D in the regulation of calcium metabolism. Together, the two vitamins control bone-building as well as breaking down cells and important transport molecules that ensure the correct utilisation of calcium.

Dosage

Directions

Take 1 capsule (200µg Vitamin K2 MK-7) with 200ml water at mealtimes daily.

Daily Requirements

Although the German Nutrition Society recommends a total intake of at least 70µg vitamin K per day, there are currently no recommendations for vitamin K2 specifically.

Note: Recent research shows that vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 have distinctly different profiles in terms of their effects. Vitamin K2 requirements have not yet been scientifically established, but are likely higher than those listed by the DGE. A complete carboxylation of Matrix GLA protein (MGP) and osteocalcin, which is the main function of vitamin K2, can be observed in doses starting from 100µg / day.

Food Supplement

Do not exceed the recommended dose. Food supplements cannot replace a balanced, varied diet and healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of young children.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
