How are we different?

Each B vitamin has multiple forms and active ingredients. Synthetic forms, which do not naturally occur in nature or the body, must first be converted before they can be used. In contrast, bioidentical forms are directly active and have an immediate effect. For our B Complex Bioactive Extra Forte, we exclusively use active bioidentical forms for optimal bioavailability and direct effect. The only exception is vitamin B1, for which the active form is not approved as a food supplement in Germany.

Some B vitamins have more than one important natural form, particularly B12 and folic acid.

As a pioneer in B12 products, our innovative Vitamin B12 MH3A® formula supplies B12 in the natural forms that the body also obtains from natural foods: as a synergistic blend of all 3 natural and bioactive forms. Each of these 3 forms fulfils distinct roles in the body and has different target areas. Our MH3A® formula contains all 3 forms of vitamin B12 in equal, balanced proportions from 5 active B12 ingredients, providing ideal all-round support – just as in nature, where all 3 forms are always found together both in our bodies and in food. Most other products on the market contain only 1 of the 3 active B12 ingredients: methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin or adenosylcobalamin.

Conventional folic acid, still used in many food supplements, is an artificial, synthetic product that does not occur in nature in this form and cannot be directly utilised by the body. Synthetic folic acid must first be converted into active folate in the body before it can take effect. This conversion process does not always run smoothly, as it requires additional cofactors and enzymes. In our unique Folate Complex, we have combined natural folate from lemon peel with 3 premium folates – specifically 3 bioactive, patented L-methylfolate active ingredients: the glucosamine salt Quatrefolic® and the highly bioavailable calcium salts Magnafolate® Pro and Metafolin®. All 3 forms deliver 99.9% pure L-methylfolate and complement one another through the rapid and effective absorption of bioactive L-5-MTHF. Because the optimal form for absorption varies from person to person, this complex of high-quality components ensures the body is reliably supplied with sufficient folate in its ideal form.

The other vitamins are also present in their active forms, such as vitamin B6 as PLP (pyridoxal 5'-phosphate) or vitamin B2 as R5P/FMN (riboflavin 5′-phosphate sodium).

In addition to the 8 vitamins of the B complex, 5 important cofactors are included, which were also counted among the B vitamins for many years: choline/citicoline (formerly vitamin B4), betaine/TMG (methyl-choline), myo-inositol (formerly vitamin B8), PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid, formerly vitamin B10) and NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride, also known as "coenzyme 1"), which is the active form of vitamin B3.

This product has been tested free from selected doping substances within the scope of the Cologne List®. The Cologne List® is a doping prevention initiative which publishes products which have been independently tested for selected doping substances by a world-class laboratory in food supplement analysis. As a partner of the Cologne List®, we ensure greater transparency in a very heterogeneous market and support athletes, teams, clubs and associations in the assessment of these products.

For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We use amber glass jars for the packaging of this product.

Effects

B Vitamins

Today, the B vitamins include 8 water-soluble bioactives known as vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, biotin and folic acid. In contrast to other vitamins, the B vitamins cannot be stored in the body over a longer period of time and must therefore be supplied daily through food. The only exception is vitamin B12, which can be stored in the liver.

Some of the B vitamins work very closely together and their effects are interdependent; it is therefore important to ensure an adequate supply of all B vitamins. As the B vitamins are distributed across all food groups, only a very balanced diet provides all B vitamins in sufficient quantities. Consequently, even large nutritional studies repeatedly show significant gaps in the supply of B vitamins.

High-Dose B Complex Extra Forte with 5 Cofactors

Directly bioactive B vitamins provide optimal bioavailability and efficacy to the body. The B vitamins included here are in highly effective, bioidentical forms as well as in active coenzyme forms. The addition of citicoline, betaine, inositol, PABA and NADH – cofactors which were formerly considered B vitamins – further increases their bioavailability and efficacy.

  • Thiamin (B1) is involved in energy production and the normal functioning of the nervous system and psyche.
  • Riboflavin (B2) plays a role in energy production and reducing fatigue, maintaining healthy skin and mucous membranes, and protecting cells and DNA from oxidative damage.
  • Nicotinamide (B3) is involved in the synthesis of serotonin and melatonin from L-tryptophan and is required for the function of the nervous system, psyche, energy, fatigue, skin and mucous membranes.
  • Pantothenic acid (B5) plays a role in the energy production of the mitochondria and is required for the synthesis of proteins, cholesterol, steroid hormones and neurotransmitters as well as for the metabolism of vitamins A and D.
  • Pyridoxine (B6) is the most important vitamin for amino acid utilisation and is involved in the immune system, hormone activity, nervous system, energy metabolism and the formation of red blood cells.
  • Biotin (B7) contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, mucous membranes and hair as well as to the normal function of the energy metabolism, nervous system and metabolism of macronutrients.
  • Folic Acid (B9) plays a role in the process of cell division, contributes to normal blood formation, amino acid synthesis and homocysteine metabolism, and is essential for healthy foetal development.
  • Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is required for the formation of red blood cells and for building DNA and proteins.

In addition to the 8 essential B vitamins, there are several other nutrients that interact closely with the B vitamins as cofactors and were therefore counted as B vitamins until recently.

  • Citicoline (formerly vitamin B4) is mainly found in the form of phosphatidylcholine (lecithin) and acetylcholine.
  • Betaine (as trimethylglycine/TMG) is another activated form of citicoline.
  • Inositol (formerly vitamin B8) is mainly found in the brain, liver and kidneys.
  • PABA (formerly vitamin B10) acts as a coenzyme and is involved in the formation of red blood cells via vitamin B9.
  • NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide hydride), the active form of vitamin B3 (niacin) and also known as "coenzyme 1," is involved in many redox reactions of the cell's metabolism.

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA):

B vitamins contribute to:

  • Maintaining normal skin and mucous membranes
  • Maintaining normal hair
  • Maintaining normal cognitive function
  • Normal macronutrient metabolism
  • Normal energy metabolism
  • Normal functioning of the nervous system
  • Normal heart function
  • Maintaining normal iron metabolism
  • Maintaining normal red blood cells
  • Protecting DNA, proteins and lipids from oxidative stress
  • Cell division
  • Maintaining normal cysteine synthesis
  • Maintaining normal amino acid synthesis
