How are we different?
Natural Vitamin D3
Our Sunferol® D3 Vegan is naturally sourced from pine, providing the most sustainable, completely plant-based source of vegan vitamin D3. The pine oil is obtained as a by-product from forestry residues (bark and branches), meaning the trees do not need to be specially grown or felled for vitamin D production. This offers a distinct advantage over vegan vitamin D from algae or lichens, which are highly energy-intensive and must be cultivated exclusively for vitamin D production. Consequently, our vegan vitamin D from pine oil can be produced much more cost-effectively and sustainably, requiring significantly less energy and raw materials.
Through a multi-step process involving the conversion of plant precursors into bioactive vitamin D3 followed by intensive purification, we obtain a D3 crystallite with a purity of over 99%. This forms the basis for our naturally vegan vitamin D3 products in premium quality.
Absolute Purity: No Hidden Additives
Our branded active ingredient, Sunferol® D3 Vegan, is a bespoke formulation crafted exclusively for Sunday Natural from natural raw materials, with an uncompromising commitment to purity and quality. To ensure optimal dosage and stability, our premium D3 is dissolved in coconut-based MCT oil. Conventional D3 ingredients are often combined with a variety of questionable additives that do not require declaration, such as synthetic vitamin E, ascorbyl palmitate, silicon dioxide, modified starch, sucrose, denatured vegetable oils and maltodextrin. Our active ingredients are produced by a specialised manufacturer using a time-intensive process that adheres strictly to our specifications. We deliberately avoid every common, hidden additive; the inherent purity of the source material allows us to include only a minimal amount of bioactive vitamin E to ensure oxidative stability, maintaining maximum potency and shelf life. To guarantee this standard, our products undergo regular independent laboratory testing for nutrient content, freshness, and potential contaminants such as heavy metals.
MCT Coconut Oil for Optimal Absorption
Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin that is only absorbed in conjunction with fat, which is why we use high-quality MCT coconut oil to ensure the highest active ingredient stability. The medium-chain fatty acids of MCT oil are also a valuable nutrient in themselves.
In order to achieve an even distribution of vitamin D3 in the powder and thus an exact dosage of the tablets, 100% nanoparticle-free microcrystalline cellulose is used as a carrier. We use 100% nanoparticle-free microcrystalline cellulose, whereas commercially available microcrystalline cellulose may contain up to 10% nanoparticles without being declared.
The only other ingredients are premium gum arabic, cultivated without the use of plant protection products, and the vegan amino acid L-leucine. In contrast to microcrystalline cellulose, a widely used synthetic filler often mixed with nanoparticles, gum arabic is a natural, fibre-rich food. Our fair trade gum arabic is climate neutral and is sustainably cultivated to conserve resources.

Vitamin D
Vitamin D3 is found almost exclusively in animal products, namely fish, dairy products, eggs and meat. Lichens also contain vitamin D, as do various fungi. The latter, however, only contain the less effective vitamin D2.
Vitamin D is a very peculiar vitamin; in the classical sense it is not a vitamin, rather a pro-hormone. Vitamin D is scarcely found in food. Instead, the body produces it in the skin given sufficient exposure to sunlight, which then gets converted in the body to an important hormone which regulates cell functioning and bodily processes. Dependant on a sufficient supply of vitamin D, almost all cells of the body have special receptors for this vitamin D–derived hormone.
Vitamin D is still being intensively researched. New mechanisms of action of this fascinating vitamin are discovered almost every year. So far, the following statements on vitamin D have been released by the EU (EFSA):

Daily Requirements
The contradictory information surrounding daily requirements for vitamin D intake can be confusing. Daily recommendations vary greatly between different organisations and governing bodies. For example, the EU recommends a daily intake of 200 IU for adults, while the German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends 800 IU.
However, numerous researchers and nonprofit organisations believe that these recommendations are too low and are not enough to prevent deficiency. An intake of at least 1500–2000 IU or 3000–6000 IU are recommended by the American Endocrine Society and the Vitamin D Council (USA), respectively.
