The turmeric plants are grown organically on farms in humid tropical regions of Sri Lanka. The tropical climate and the nutrient-rich soil influence the development of the valuable natural ingredients and aromas, such as curlone, turmerone or curcumene, in a rich and harmonious way. The aromatic roots are harvested by hand by experienced farmers between January and March and then steam distilled in a local distillery.

Turmeric
Turmeric belongs to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). It likely originated in India and is now cultivated in many tropical regions around the world. The plant grows to a height of around 1m and, in addition to its broad green leaves, produces aromatic yellow to orange rhizomes similar to ginger. At flowering time, the plant develops white-yellow petals at the top. The root is used fresh or dried to season food and as an ingredient in traditional spice mixtures as well as for dyeing paper and fabrics. Turmeric is a valued remedy in traditional Ayurvedic and Javanese medicine.
Aroma
The pleasantly spicy, warming fragrance helps to release tension and negative feelings, achieving physical and mental relaxation and a pleasant balance. The slightly spicy aroma helps to stimulate the appetite.
