How are we different?

This mustard seed extract contains a rich variety of 100% natural, plant-based and organic forms of selenium. Mustard seeds have a particularly high concentration of L-selenomethionine, which is the most bioavailable and important form of selenium for humans. The many other forms of selenium naturally present in the seeds, as well as the naturally occuring phytochemicals, complement this natural complex.

We source our water extract of mustard seeds from an innovator in India. While plant extractions are commonly performed using chemical solvents, this extraction process involves only water — no solvents such as N-hexane, methanol or acetone are used. Our 20:1 water extract of mustard seeds is standardised to 0.5% natural selenium. Regular laboratory testing guarantees the selenium content as well as the absence of heavy metals and pesticides.

The only other ingredient is premium acacia fibre, cultivated without the use of plant protection products. In contrast to microcrystalline cellulose, a widely used synthetic filler often mixed with nanoparticles, gum arabic is a natural, fibre-rich food. Our fair trade acacia gum is climate neutral and is sustainably cultivated to conserve resources.

For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.

Selenium

Selenium is an essential trace element and an integral part of more than 25 enzymes. These enzymes, known as selenoproteins, play a role in several important body functions: normal immune system and throid function, the protection of cells from oxidative damage and the maintenance of healthy hair and nails.

Selenium in Mustard Seed

The mustard plant is a member of the cruciferous family. In addition to organic and inorganic selenides, mustard seeds are rich in the selenium-containing amino acid selenomethionine. With an absorption rate of 80–100%, organic selenium is highly bioavailable and occurs in combination with other compounds found in the seeds.

Directions

Take 1 capsule (200ug selenium) with 200ml water daily.

Daily Requirements

To avoid developing a deficiency, the official daily requirement for selenium according to the German Nutrition Society (DGE) is 30µg–70µg (NRV: 55µg).
