The dulse alga (Palmaria palmata) stands out with its vivid, deep purple colour. It belongs to the red algae family and grows particularly well on rocks, mussels and on strands of other algae species in the cold coastal waters of the Atlantic and Pacific.
Seaweed has a long tradition of being used for culinary purposes; the use of dulse seaweed has even been described in poems and legends. With its uniquely intense umami flavour and nutritional quality, it adds a special touch to a variety of dishes, whether fresh, dried or ground.
