The production of our vegan L-carnitine tartrate does not involve the use of any animal products, including gelatine, hair and feathers. The tartrate form, meaning L-carnitine bound to the salt of tartaric acid, is considered the best in terms of bioavailability.

Carnitine

L-Carnitine is a semi-essential amino acid that the body can synthesise from lysine and methionine, but which also must be consumed as part of a balanced diet. L-carnitine is especially important for energy, fat, and sugar metabolism because it plays a role in the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria. Moreover, L-carnitine possesses antioxidative properties and can increase the antioxidative capacities of the enzymes glutathione peroxidase, catalase, and superoxide dismutase. Because L-carnitine can also transport metabolic waste out of the mitochondria, it also plays an important role in detoxification processes.
