Copaiba
Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis) is a flowering tree species that belongs to the legume family (Fabaceae) and is native to Bolivia, Brazil and Venezuela. The deciduous trees with white-yellowish buds can grow up to 19m high. The name of this plant species is derived from the Tupi language: "Cupa-yba" means "deposit tree" or "natural ore deposit," which refers to the valuable oleoresin. Copaiba oleoresin or copaiba balsam is known among the indigenous people of the Amazon for a variety of therapeutic properties, such as caring for the navel of newborn babies or to treat wounds and bruises. In aromatherapy, copaiba oil is used to support the skin and digestive and immune systems. The main active ingredient in copaiba is β-caryophyllene, which is known for its anti-inflammatory and healing properties.
