These citronella plants thrive in the fertile lowlands of Nepal. They have been grown organically since 2016 and are harvested every six months. The climatic conditions of this region and fertile soils contribute to the harmonious development of the ingredients in the plants, such as geraniol, citronellal, geranial or geranyl acetate. The leaves are harvested by hand, collected and processed into this aromatic essential oil using steam in our own distillery.

This family-run company has specialised in the cultivation or wild collection of indigenous and cultivated medicinal and aromatic plants for over 30 years. There is a close connection and co-operation with the cooperating farmers and collectors, who are regularly trained in current cultivation methods, supported and paid fairly for their products. The range of essential oils consists either of plants from controlled organic cultivation or controlled wild collections in the mountains of Nepal. The joy and passion for growing, harvesting and distilling local aromatic plants can be seen in the excellent quality of the essential oils. Many of the products are certified with the EU organic seal.
Citronella
Citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus Jowitt) belongs to the sweet grass family (Poaceae). The plant originally comes from western Malaysia and is cultivated in tropical regions of the world. It is similar in appearance and scent to the well-known lemongrass. Citronella is a perennial, densely tufted plant with a slightly bulbous base and a growth height of up to 2.5 metres. The lemony-scented leaves are partly purple in colour. Because of their aromatic and medicinal value, they are used in many cultures to treat fever, intestinal parasites, digestive and menstrual problems or as an insect repellent. The essential oil is often used in the perfume industry.
