How are we different?
Our original NatAxtin® Astaxanthin is extracted from the algae Haematococcus pluvialis. During unfavourable living conditions such as intense UV radiation, high temperatures, nutrient deficiency or other environmental stressors, the alga begins to store astaxanthin in its cells and turns from green to red. This protective mechanism enables it to survive for years.
Haematococcus pluvialis algae is cultivated in open breeding tanks in the Atacama Desert. The production process is sustainable, energy-efficient and mimics the way H. pluvialis is grown in nature. The algae use the sun's energy and carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere to grow, thus contributing to a lower carbon footprint. The Atacama Desert is ideal for the production of astaxanthin as it offers a pristine atmosphere isolated from agricultural or populated areas, allowing for safe and clean algae cultivation.
In contrast to completely synthetically produced astaxanthin, which is synthesised from petroleum chemicals or from yeast, our NatAxtin® astaxanthin is of completely natural origin. Astaxanthin obtained from algae is naturally esterified with fatty acids and is therefore more easily absorbed; it is also fat-soluble and shows the best bioavailability as a liquid. This is why our capsules do not contain astaxanthin powder, but of liquid astaxanthin dissolved in pure, high-quality MCT coconut oil. The manufacturer of our coconut MCT oil can confirm that no monkeys are used to harvest the coconuts.
Our airtight and leak-proof GreenCaps help protect the selected oil-based raw materials from oxidation. The capsule shells are filled using nitrogen gas and then hermetically sealed, ensuring optimal freshness and extending the product's shelf life. Unlike most other HPMC capsules on the market, our GreenCaps are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans, PEG and gelatine. They are vegan, gluten-free and allergen-free. Once the capsules are ready, we package them in environmentally friendly amber glass jars.
Astaxanthin
The microalga Haematococcus pluvialis, commonly known as blood rain alga, is renowned for its impressive red colouration. This is caused by the carotenoid astaxanthin, which the alga produces as a natural protective mechanism against environmental stressors such as intense UV radiation, high temperatures or nutrient deficiency. The storage of astaxanthin allows it to survive for years, even under extreme conditions. This valuable compound not only protects the alga itself but is also responsible for the striking colour of animals like salmon and flamingos, which consume astaxanthin through the food chain. Natural astaxanthin from microalgae inherently contains the original, full carotenoid spectrum of the alga.
