Our original ASTAFIT® Astaxanthin is extracted from the algae Haematococcus pluvialis. During unfavourable living conditions such as intense UV radiation, high temperatures, nutrient deficiency or other environmental stressors, the alga begins to store astaxanthin in its cells and turns from green to red. This protective mechanism enables it to survive for years.
To produce ASTAFIT®, this natural process is imitated in a controlled environment within closed photobioreactors, strictly controlled and shielded from any potential environmental contamination. Only biogenic CO2 is used to cultivate the microalgae, a by-product from regional bioethanol production. The closed, state-of-the-art cultivation plant also enables the lowest possible use of resources such as water and cleaning agents; it is also 100% powered by renewable electricity.
In contrast to completely synthetically produced astaxanthin, which is synthesised from petroleum chemicals or from yeast, our ASTAFIT® astaxanthin is of completely natural origin. Astaxanthin obtained from algae is naturally esterified with fatty acids and is therefore more easily absorbed; it is also fat-soluble and shows the best bioavailability as a liquid. This is why our capsules do not contain astaxanthin powder, but of liquid astaxanthin suspended in pure, high-quality MCT coconut oil.
Our airtight and leak-proof GreenCaps help protect the selected oil-based raw materials from oxidation. The capsule shells are filled using nitrogen gas and then hermetically sealed, ensuring optimal freshness and extending the product's shelf life. Unlike most other HPMC capsules on the market, our GreenCaps are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans, PEG and gelatine. They are vegan, gluten-free and allergen-free. Once the capsules are ready, we package them in environmentally friendly amber glass jars.
