Amazongrass is a subspecies of citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus) that grows in the Amazon and has developed a particularly fine aroma profile due to the climate there. It is traditionally cultivated on a small farm in the Amazon rainforest in northern Brazil. The tropical equatorial climate of this region provides ideal conditions for this species to thrive and develop its fine aromas and special ingredients such as geraniol, citronellol, geranial, geranyl acetate and caryophyllene.

Farm

The company specialises in the sustainable production of essential oils from Brazil's endemic aromatic plants. It works with the highest quality standards, respects biodiversity and is committed to the social development of the indigenous population of the region. The producer relies on communities of indigenous people who harvest wild plants as well as on small and medium-sized farms. In this way, the manufacturer offers alternative income opportunities and does its part to reduce the pressure to cut down the rainforest. The traceability of the origin of its products and its commitment to protecting Brazil's nature are well documented. The manufacturer is a member of the UEBT organisation "Sourcing with Respect."

Amazongrass

The Amazongrass (Cymbopogon winterianus), which belongs to the Poaceae family, is a perennial, bush-shaped grass with long, narrow, aromatic leaves. It is native to the tropical and semi-tropical regions of Asia, India and Indonesia and is cultivated in South and Central America. Amazongrass is related to other citronella species such as Java citronella, but the terroir of the Amazon rainforest gives this species a special composition of aromatic components characterised by geraniol, geranial, geranyl acetate, citronellol and citronellal. It gives the plant a characteristic lemony, fresh and sweet fragrance. Amazongrass is used in aromatherapy for its insect repellent, antifungal, antiseptic, deodorising and toning properties.
