How are we different?
The former area of the Zechstein Sea in the Netherlands is home to the world's purest and highest quality natural source of magnesium chloride. This natural blend of magnesium chloride deposits and other trace elements contributes to the high bioavailability and tolerability of Zechsal magnesium oil.
The Zechstein mine is located above a mineral-rich brine deposit that stretches from Northern England to the Netherlands, across Germany and to Russia. In the sea, which dried up 250 million years ago, the various layers of brine were deposited on top of each other in certain regions. Today, a significant layer of magnesium chloride is located below the Netherlands at a depth of roughly 1600–2000m, far from any form of environmental pollution. The 31% saturated magnesium oil has been extracted by deep drilling and water extraction methods since 1982.
Zechstein magnesium oil, which is obtained directly from the soil, can be used immediately without chemical purification on account of its exceptional quality—a major advantage over magnesium chloride obtained through salt water evaporation.

Zechsal Magnesium Gel
Zechsal magnesium gel consists of a combination of roughly 30% magnesium oil and a natural gel made of plant-based starch. Its unique consistency makes it particularly suitable for use in skincare and fitness massages. The gel should be massaged onto the skin and left to sink in for at least 15 minutes. Massage increases the absorption of magnesium through the skin. Any sticky residue remaining can be showered off afterwards.
Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium chloride takes fully ionic forms when dissolved in water, making it highly bioavailable. In human cells, approximately 10% of magnesium is in an ionic form, whereas the rest is bound to other tissue structures and enzymes, one of which is the ATP molecule ("fuel molecule"), which is able to produce energy only when magnesium ions are present. Below an intracellular concentration of 10mmol ionic magnesium, there is no basis for the formation of stable and properly folded proteins.
Magnesium ions enter the body in different ways depending on the compound and the type of administration (oral, transdermal, or intravenous). In the case of transdermal application, magnesium ions are applied locally and contact with the gastrointestinal tract is avoided. Transdermal application is also associated with benefits for the skin.
Transdermal Magnesium
As a natural cosmetic, transdermal magnesium offers a reliable and effective method for applying magnesium to the skin. It has a range of beneficial properties, including:

It is believed that the perspiratory glands play a key role in the absorption of magnesium through the skin and into the blood. The cells responsible for the reabsorption of magnesium while sweating are particularly important, as they prevent magnesium loss. Increased absorption through palms, soles, armpits, forehead, and the inner side of the elbows is to be expected, because the perspiratory glands in these areas have a particularly high density (120–370 per cm²).

Recommended daily intake: 1 to 2 pumps daily, in the morning or at night. 1 pump corresponds to approximately 1.5ml gel = approximately 150mg elemental magnesium.
Recommended dosage in cases of severe deficiency: 1 to 2 pumps in the morning and another at night every day for a minimum of 6 weeks. 3 pumps correspond to approximately 4.5ml and 450mg elemental magnesium.

How much magnesium does Zechstein Magnesium Gel contain?
1 litre of Zechstein Magnesium Gel contains 300ml of magnesium chloride (30%). This has a pure magnesium content of 25.55%. One litre of magnesium oil therefore contains 1000ml x 30% x 25.6% = 77ml of pure magnesium. With a density of the saturated magnesium chloride solution of 1.3kg per litre, this corresponds to 77ml x 1300mg / 1000ml = 100mg magnesium
In addition to the 100mg magnesium (26.7% of the recommended daily intake / Nutritional Reference Value (NRV) of the EU), 1ml Original Zechstein Magnesium Oil also contains 290mg chloride (36.3% of the recommended daily intake / NRV of the EU).
