This Indian tagetes, also known as wild marigold, is cultivated in natural conditions at an altitude of 1800m in the protected Himalayan valley of Kashmir in northern India. The unique high-altitude climate with its extreme temperature fluctuations – from cool nights to intensely sunny days – creates ideal conditions for an exceptionally complex spectrum of flavours.
With over 50% trans-β-ocimene and significant amounts of tagetones and ocimenone, refined by tangy nuances of D-limonene, the plant unfolds its characteristic, fruity-sweet, citrus-herbaceous aroma with fine herbal notes. At the optimal harvest time, only the fresh flower heads and top shoot tips are carefully hand-picked and processed on site by experienced distillers into this intensely fruity essential oil through gentle steam distillation.
