This African white verbena species is cultivated in controlled organic conditions around the towns of Humpata and Chibia, in the highlands of Huila province. The plants grow in clay soils at an altitude of 1200m. The annual rainfall in this region is about 800mm. The unique climatic conditions of this area are ideally suited for natural active ingredients such as citral, limonene and geraniol to develop. In the dry season between May and August, the fresh, aromatic leaves and twigs are harvested and manufactured into this highly pure aromatic essential oil by gentle steam distillation.

Verbena
This white verbena (Lippia alba Mill.) from Angola belongs to the Verbenaceae family and is a perennial woody shrub that grows in tropical and subtropical areas and forms many different chemotypes. It grows to a height of 1-2m, forming square stems with hairy leaves. The leaves give off a citrusy fragrance when rubbed between the fingers, making it one of the most aromatic native shrubs in southern Africa. Small cream-coloured clusters of flowers form throughout the year, particularly in summer. In African folk medicine, white verbena is used in many ways for its soothing, calming, pain-relieving and anxiety-relieving effects. It is used for colds and coughs, as an insect repellent and is drunk as a tea because of its pleasant taste and smell.
