How are we different?
The over 2000-year-old knowledge of the Chinese tradition regarding the benefits and cultivation of functional mushrooms is unique. Even today, Chinese cultivars produce the richest mushrooms, and cultivation has been perfected to such an extent that the cultivated mushrooms are in no way inferior to their wild-grown ancestors. Our mushrooms come from Fujian in Gutian County, the world's most renowned region for functional mushrooms. Our partner farm is certified organic according to EU standards and places great importance on natural, traditional cultivation methods. The mushrooms are harvested by hand between July and October at their peak compound content.
Mushrooms consist of the above-ground fruiting body and the mostly subterranean mycelium. The important compounds of the mushroom are concentrated in the fruiting body. While products from the mycelium are much cheaper as it is faster and easier to cultivate, they contain almost no valuable compounds. Our mushroom powders and extracts are therefore obtained exclusively from the whole fruiting body of the mushroom, including the stems, and contain the full richness of its valuable compounds. The Polyporus is one of the mushrooms that forms a so-called sclerotium, a hardened dormant form of the mushroom that protects it against cold and dryness. For Polyporus, the sclerotium exhibits the highest concentration of natural compounds and therefore forms the basis for our Polyporus powder.
In contrast to extracts, which selectively isolate specific compounds from the overall complex, mushroom powders contain the full spectrum of all natural substances.
Our mushroom powders are ground to a fineness of 0.1mm using the special shellbroken method. This process maximally breaks down the hard-to-digest mushroom matrix, making it optimally bioavailable.

Polyporus
Polyporus
Polyporus umbellatus (Umbrella Polypore, Zhu Ling)
The umbrella polypore thrives in warm deciduous forests on the stumps and roots of oak and birch trees. This rare but esteemed edible mushroom forms dense bundles of dozens to hundreds of tall, narrow caps. These bundles can grow to sizes of up to 50cm across and weigh several kilos. The light brown and rounded appearance of these bundles at the foot of oak trees has earned the polypore the nickname "oak rabbit" (Eichhase) in German, because at first glance one might mistake it for a wild rabbit.
The individual caps grow from a shared stump that emerges from the mushroom's blackish-brown sclerotium, which is a type of hardened mycelium that grows underground or inside a tree trunk and which can survive harsh temperatures in winter. The polypore can allegedly live for up to 30 years. While the fruiting body is typically used in cooking, the sclerotium is more often used in medicine. The sclerotium contains the highest concentration of nutrients in the polypore, including minerals and vitamins as well as diverse polysaccharides and triterpenes.
Our polyporus powder is made from the sclerotium and therefore has a high concentration of unique compounds.
Cultivation & Processing
Cultivation & Processing
Our functional mushrooms are sourced from the renowned mushroom-growing region of Gutian County (600–700m above sea level), in Fujian, China. The cultivation of mushrooms is an age-old tradition in the region, as is reflected by the unparalleled quality of these mushrooms. The fertile land, sophisticated substrates and the climate all contribute to a uniquely nutritious end product. Moreover, these pristine lands are protected by dense mountain forests, thus providing an ideal environment for the mushrooms to thrive. Our untreated mushrooms are certified organically grown according to EU standards. They are grown to full maturity and hand-picked at the peak of their vitality, between July and October.
The mushrooms retain their raw quality as a result of gentle drying at temperatures below 40°C. This process preserves the delicate enzymes and potent bioactives of the mushrooms. To ensure that these nutrients are bioavailable, the dried mushrooms are then gently milled. Thanks to our use of the "shell-broken" method, the powder attains a fineness of less than 0.125mm, which ensures that the compounds within the cells as well as within the chitin skeleton of the mushroom are optimally available for absorption. The powder contains the full richness of enzymes, vitamins, minerals and trace elements of the whole fruiting body of the mushroom.
