How are we different?

Our functional mushrooms are sourced from the renowned mushroom-growing region of Gutian County (600–700m above sea level), in Fujian, China. The wealth of knowledge passed down through Chinese tradition for over 2000 years regarding the benefits and cultivation of these mushrooms is truly exceptional. Today, Chinese cultivators produce the most potent mushrooms, having refined their cultivation methods to the point where the cultivated mushrooms rival their wild counterparts. Our partner farm prioritises natural and traditional cultivation techniques.

Mushrooms are composed of the fruiting body, which typically appears above ground, and the mycelium underneath. The most important compounds in functional mushrooms are concentrated within the fruiting body, but due to mycelia being faster and easier to cultivate, products derived from the mycelium are common despite being of lesser value. Our mushroom powders and extracts are exclusively made from the entire fruiting body (including the stalk), preserving the valuable compounds in each mushroom.

Among these nutrients, the mushroom polysaccharides are particularly beneficial. Our mushroom extracts are carefully crafted to concentrate these substances. The gentle extraction process strictly follows traditional methods, using water only, ensuring a highly pure product; as a result, our extracts are free from any toxic residues left behind by chemical solvents like acetone, N-hexane or methanol.

In contrast to extracts, which can lose some of their nutritional value during processing, powders contain the full spectrum of nutrients. To ensure that these nutrients are optimally bioavailable, our powder is gently ground according to the "shell-broken" method to a size of less than 0.1mm. This milling process breaks open the difficult-to-digest cells of the mushroom and makes their contents directly bioavailable.

By combining the mushroom powder and extract, this product offers the complete range of all the effective nutrients of the mushroom, including an especially high concentration of beta-glucans.

Auricularia

Mu-Err (Auricularia auricular, Cloud Ear)

The mu-err mushroom may be familiar to connoisseurs of Chinese cooking, as this "Chinese morel" is used in many Chinese dishes. This mushroom is highly regarded for its texture, and there is evidence that variants of this mushroom have been used in herbal medicine in China for over 2000 years and in Europe since medieval times.

Auricularia auricular can be found all over the world on deciduous trees, especially elder trees. The name translated from Latin is also known as "Judas' ear," a name that stems from the myth that this mushroom was growing on the side of the tree from which Judas hanged himself.

Cultivation & Processing

Our functional mushrooms are sourced from the renowned mushroom-growing region of Gutian County (600–700m above sea level), in Fujian, China. The cultivation of mushrooms is an age-old tradition in the region, as is reflected by the unparalleled quality of these mushrooms. The fertile land, sophisticated substrates and the climate all contribute to a uniquely nutritious end product. Moreover, these pristine lands are protected by dense mountain forests, thus providing an ideal environment for the mushrooms to thrive. Our untreated mushrooms are certified organically grown according to EU standards. They are grown to full maturity and hand-picked at the peak of their vitality, between July and October.

The mushrooms retain their raw quality as a result of gentle drying at temperatures below 40°C. This process preserves the delicate enzymes and potent bioactives of the mushrooms. To ensure that these nutrients are bioavailable, the dried mushrooms are then gently milled. Thanks to our use of the "shell-broken" method, the powder attains a fineness of less than 0.125mm, which ensures that the compounds within the cells as well as within the chitin skeleton of the mushroom are optimally available for absorption. The powder contains the full richness of enzymes, vitamins, minerals and trace elements of the whole fruiting body of the mushroom.

To further concentrate the beneficial beta-glucans present in the mushrooms, we transform the gently dried and finely ground fruiting bodies and stems into an extract. Following traditional methods, we employ water as the sole extraction medium. Water extracts have been an integral part of Chinese tradition and Western herbalism for centuries, serving as a preferred technique for producing plant extracts. This gentle extraction method results in a highly pure extract, completely free from any toxic residues of chemical solvents such as acetone, N-hexane or methanol.
