How are we different?
Premium omega-3 as a natural triglyceride, combined with bioavailable vitamin D3 and K2 as Sunferol® vegan D3 and Sunquinone® K2 from our own production.
Our omega-3 is sourced from the algae Schizochytrium sp., which boasts the world’s highest plant-based DHA content. The algae also naturally contains EPA. In contrast to other vegan omega-3 products, this alga does not provide the inactive precursor alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), such as is found in linseed oil and which must first be converted into the active form, but rather directly provides bioactive omega-3 fatty acids.
Conventional omega-3 supplements are usually based on fish oil, despite the heavy metals, microplastics and other toxins commonly found in many species of fish. Furthermore, fish oil is extremely questionable from an ethical and ecological point of view. To avoid these risks, we use natural, 100% vegan, completely plant-based omega-3 from algae oil. Microalgae are not only an ethical and sustainable source of omega-3 fatty acids: they also contain many other valuable phytonutrients and, unlike fish, have no measurable levels of environmental toxins. The microalgae used for this product are cultivated in closed fermentation systems that do not interfere with the sea's natural ecosystem, meaning that our omega-3 has no negative impact on fish populations or the natural food sources of marine animals.
To ensure standardisation, small quantities of a high-quality, oleic acid–rich sunflower oil are added to the formula. The high oleic acid content in combination with rosemary extract, fat-soluble vitamin C (ascorbyl palmitate) and mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) reduces susceptibility to oxidation and thus extends the fatty acids' shelf life. The low degree of oxidation of the oil (TOTOX value in the raw material: < 4) proves the freshness of the algae oil.
Our specialised production process is what makes our vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 so pure. More specifically, our custom-made vitamin D3 is produced by a renowned and specialised producer who follows our strict guidelines regarding the exclusion of hidden ingredients. In contrast to cheaper alternatives and imported active ingredients, our vitamin K2 consists of at least 99.7% highly effective all-trans MK-7. Impurities and fluctuations in quality among batches are therefore not an issue.
Synthetic vitamin E often contains only one of the 4 naturally occurring forms of vitamin E. As a result, synthetically produced vitamin E often has poorer bioavailability, is in some cases ineffective and may even be harmful. Our high-dose vitamin E therefore contains exclusively natural vitamin E from soya and contains all 4 tocopherols in their natural distribution. It is dissolved in sunflower oil to guarantee a consistently high vitamin E content and is 100% free from hidden additives.
For our capsule shells, we use unique vegan softgels made from tapioca starch (cassava root), which are produced exclusively for us without hidden additives such as PEG and carrageenan. We use environmentally friendly amber glass jars for the packaging of this product.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids are a special category of polyunsaturated fatty acids. They form an integral part of bodily cell membranes and are an important precursor of eicosanoids, in turn regulating many important bodily functions, such as brain and heart function.
The EFSA has approved the following statements:

Vitamin D & Vitamin K2
Vitamin D and vitamin K2 are cofactors in the regulation of calcium metabolism. If a vitamin K2 deficiency exists while taking vitamin D3, there is a risk of excessive calcium storage in vessels and organs (risk of calcification, arteriosclerosis, kidney stones, etc.). Our vitamin D3 and K2 MK-7 combines the two nutrients in a ratio that ensures an optimal interaction.
Currently, almost all authorities do not consider vitamin K2 separately, but all K vitamins together. Accordingly, the statements released for vitamin K1 currently apply to vitamin K2.

Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a complex of eight different compounds, containing four tocopherols and four tocotrienols, each with the prefix alpha, beta, gamma or delta and with their own specific properties. All components of vitamin E work synergistically.

Omega-3 oils are only as good as they are fresh: omega-3 fatty acids are naturally reactive and prone to oxidation processes, leading to rancidity. Oxidised omega-3 fatty acids produce primary fatty acid peroxides, which further degrade into secondary oxidation products, such as aldehydes (e.g., malondialdehyde and 4-hydroxyhexenal). Assessing oxidative by-products is therefore vital to guarantee the quality of omega-3 supplements.
To gauge omega-3 oil oxidation, three key values are employed: the peroxide value (PV), p-anisidine value and the TOTOX value, the latter of which is calculated from anisidine and peroxide values (TOTOX value = p-anisidine value + (2 * PV)).
The TOTOX value (TOTal OXidation) is an internationally recognised indicator which assesses overall oxidation levels in fats and oils, serving as an important barometer of their freshness. The anisidine value (AV) measures aldehyde formation during fat oxidation, revealing whether the oil was processed and stored correctly. The peroxide value (PV) quantifies the state of oxidation. Higher TOTOX values indicate greater rancidity.
We continuously monitor our omega-3 products for anisidine and peroxide values, not only at the raw material stage but also after the oil has been filled into our capsules and bottles at the final product stage. During production, we take the greatest possible care to ensure that all contact with oxygen is minimised in order to prevent oxidation processes. We prioritise the freshness of our raw materials and proper end-product storage, minimising extended storage times.
Official bodies (IFOS, IKOS, GOED, GMBI) stipulate that the following limits must not be exceeded:
- Peroxide value (PV): maximum 5 mEq/kg
- Anisidine value (AV): maximum 20
- TOTOX value: maximum 26
A TOTOX value exceeding 26 indicates spoilage in the omega-3 oil, rendering it unfit for consumption. Conversely, a TOTOX value below 20 signifies fresh, high-quality oil. Our products have values well below the recommended limits.
A deterioration in the taste or smell of the algae oil within this timeframe suggests premature oxidation. Possible culprits include contact between the dropper and the mouth/tongue or improper storage: store your omega-3 product away from light in the refrigerator's lower section to significantly slow down oxidation processes in the algae oil, both before and after opening the package.
