How are we different?
Pure manuka honey from Naki: not a mixture of flowers
Naki's manuka honey comes from a wild and remote region of New Zealand, the Taranaki bush, where the vegetation consists almost exclusively of manuka and can only be reached by helicopter. This alone guarantees pure manuka honey without any contamination of honey from other flowers. Bees harvest all the flowers available to them within a certain radius. This distinguishes Naki's manuka honey from other manuka honeys that are produced nearby. A minimum MGO content of 829mg/kg and the DHA (dihydroacetone) and HMF (hydroxymethylfurfural) content are laboratory-tested and confirmed by a government agency.

As Naki's manuka honey is produced exclusively in the pristine nature of the Taranaki bush and the manuka nectar available there is limited, its supply is naturally strictly limited.

Manuka
Manuka
The name Manuka comes from the indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori. The plant also carries the name South Sea Myrtle (Leptospermum scoparium) or New Zealand Myrtle. It belongs to the myrtle family, which is related to the Australian tea tree and is native to the mountainous regions of New Zealand and southeastern Australia. Manuka grows as a shrub or tree-like up to about 4 meters in height. The plant is very hardy and thrives from lowland to sub-alpine heights.
The Manuka plant has become famous for the honey it produces and for its Manuka essential oil (the "real" tea tree oil). The plant parts of the Manuka were traditionally already used by the Maori as a great natural remedy for humans and animals. English missionaries brought the first beehives into the country in 1839, so that eventually the famous Manuka honey could be obtained.
The honey is obtained from the nectar of white Manuka flowers (with pink edges). Manuka grows mostly next to the related Kanuka, which however produces pure red / pink flowers. Manuka honey thus usually also has small proportions of Kanuka.

UNIQUE MANUKA FACTOR UMF
Any honey produced by bees in the vicinity of manuka plants can be called manuka, even if hardly any manuka content is detectable. The MGO content can vary greatly between manuka honeys, is often well below 200 mg/kg and is sometimes not declared.
The "Unique Manuka Factor" (UMF) is a special quality feature whose label may only be used by certified members of the New Zealand "Active Manuka Honey Association" (AMHA). In addition to the MGO content, the UMF classification also measures leptosperin and DHA.
