The nutmeg trees (Myristica fragrans) grow organically on farms in the Central Highlands region of Sri Lanka. The cooler temperatures of the highlands provide the trees with the ideal growing conditions to develop their natural ingredients and flavours, such as sabinene, alpha- and beta-pinene, in a harmonious ratio. The fruits are harvested and collected by hand by the farmers at the ideal time, as soon as the skin begins to open. The seed coat is separated from the nuts, sun-dried and distilled in the manufacturer's distillery using steam to produce this fine, aromatic essential oil.

Nutmeg tree
The nutmeg tree (Myristica fragrans) belongs to the nutmeg family (Myristicaceae). It probably originates from the Banda Islands in South-East Asia and the Moluccas. It is an evergreen, slender tree with a growth height of up to 15m. It produces sturdy, large, dark green leaves and both male and female flowers. The small white female flowers are reminiscent of lily of the valley. The fruit ripens in an approx. 8 mm thick yellow husk. This bursts open when ripe and exposes the brown seed, the nutmeg, encased in an intensely red, fine seed coat, the mace. Nutmeg and mace are popular kitchen spices and are widely used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine due to their anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, digestive and sleep-promoting effects.
Aroma
The nutty, spicy aroma of nutmeg has a strong warming, invigorating, stimulating and relaxing effect. It helps to reduce stress and tension and free the mind from worrying thoughts.
