The lemon eucalyptus trees have been grown organically on the family-run farm in south-east Madagascar since 2018. The tropical oceanic climate, soil conditions and temperatures play a major role in the optimal development of important natural ingredients in these trees, such as citronellal and β-citronellol. The hand harvest of the branches and leaves takes place outside the rainy season and the winter months. After harvesting, the collected leaves are distilled in the farm's own distillery using gentle steam to produce this complex citrus-floral essential oil.

This essential oil comes from a passionate producer who owns an EcoCert-certified organic farm near the coast in south-east Madagascar, where a variety of aromatic plants are cultivated. The plants are grown in harmony with nature and, as far as possible in a tropical climate, according to the principles of biodynamic cultivation methods. The farm's distilleries are self-built and have been designed and built in the harmonious proportions of the golden ratio. Mindfulness in dealing with nature and the production process is reflected in the high-quality essential oils. In addition, the manufacturer is involved in self-initiated social projects in his region, builds and supports schools there and gives tree seedlings, which are grown on his farm, to the local population to grow for firewood.
Eucalyptus
The eucalyptus belongs to the myrtle family (Myrtaceae), which is native to Australia. Lemon eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodora) can be found in the wild or cultivated in Madagascar and Brazil. The evergreen eucalyptus grows sprawling with smooth, light-coloured bark. The trees have aromatic, narrow lanceolate to sickle-shaped, hanging, medium to deep green leaves that can grow up to 23cm long. It produces white to cream-coloured blossoms in spring and summer. In Madagascar, the lemon eucalyptus is known as kininy manitra, which translates as ‘fragrant eucalyptus’. Kininy is pronounced like quinine here and refers to its traditional use as an antimalarial drug. Due to its high citronellal content, the essential oil is often used in natural insect repellents, especially against mosquitoes.
