There are significant differences in the quality of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) available on the market, even amongst products labelled as pharmaceutical-grade with a purity of 99.9%. Many DMSO products are even produced from waste or as a by-product of the chemical industry.
We obtain our pharmaceutical-grade DMSO from a leading manufacturer who produces it according to the specifications of the European Pharmacopoeia (99.9% Ph. Eur.).
DMSO reacts with plastic and is hygroscopic (water-binding); we therefore offer our DMSO in an airtight and light-protected amber glass bottle with a Teflon-coated cap.
DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) is an organic solvent with a slightly oily consistency that can be obtained from wood pulp. Sulfur-containing MSM is a close relative of DMSO, but the two substances are only similar in terms of chemical structure, not function.
DMSO is hygroscopic (water-binding) and easily mixes with water.
DMSO's melting point is 18°C; below this temperature, it crystallises. This process is reversible, meaning that DMSO becomes liquid again at around 20–22°C. To liquefy, place the bottle in warm (not hot) water – do not heat in the microwave.
