Balm Mint Bush (Prostanthera melissifolia) grows wild among tall eucalyptus trees in the vast, unspoiled mountainous landscape of the state of Victoria. The moderate, high-precipitation climate that prevails in south-east Australia offers the plants sufficient moisture and thus ideal conditions to develop their complex ingredients and fragrances, such as alpha-pinene, piperitone, 1.8-cineol and linalool. The fresh leaves and twigs are collected from the wild during the winter months and steamed into this fresh, aromatic essential oil in the local distillery.

Balm Mint Bush
Balm Mint Bush (Prostanthera melissifolia) is one of about 100 species of the genus Prostanthera from the mint family (Lamiaceae), which are exclusively native to Australia. The shrub-like, evergreen, very aromatic plant is native to the wooded mountain regions of the states of New South Wales and Victoria. Balm Mint Bush reaches a height of 1 to 2 meters and likes to grow on roadsides, clearings and rocky outcrops between tall eucalypts in the temperate climate zone with high rainfall in south-eastern Australia. Leaves are dark green, oval, and have many oil glands that spread their minty aroma when touched. A multitude of purple-colored, bell-shaped flowers appear between October and December.
