How are we different?

Not all forms of vitamin B12 have the same effect. Conventional supplements often contain only synthetic forms of vitamin B12, which must first be converted into biologically active forms in the body before they can be used. In addition, they usually contain only a single active ingredient of B12, whereas various active forms occur in the body and in natural foods. All forms have different effects and enter the body via different metabolic pathways, so it varies individually which form of B12 is best absorbed.

Our vitamin B12 drops contain two bioactive and natural forms of vitamin B12: methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. Both forms can be used directly by the body without prior conversion and are characterised by very good absorbability. Methylcobalamin is the dominant form of vitamin B12 in the blood and cell plasma. Adenosylcobalamin, more precisely 5-deoxyadenosylcobalamin, is the form found in the mitochondria (the energy power plants of the cells). The combination of these two forms optimally supports the normal function of the nervous system and normal mental function.

The liquid dropper form allows direct absorption into the bloodstream through the oral mucosa, bypassing any intestinal absorption issues and significantly enhancing bioavailability.

Our vitamin B12 drops are water-based and contain glycerol from rapeseed oil as a stabiliser. They do not contain any of the usual preservatives such as potassium sorbate.

Effects

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

Vitamin B12 fulfils a number of important functions in the body: it can help to reduce tiredness and fatigue and maintain a normal energy metabolism; it contributes to the normal functioning of the psyche, immune and nervous systems; supports the formation of red blood cells; and is beneficial for normal homocysteine metabolism. The body also needs vitamin B12 for cell division.

Vitamin B12 acts as a so-called coenzyme in the body, meaning it is necessary for certain enzymes to fulfil their tasks. The associated reactions are directly dependent on vitamin B12 and cannot take place without it.

Natural, Bioactive Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) exists in various forms, each with different roles in the body. The natural forms of vitamin B12 that are directly active in the body are referred to as "bioactive coenzymes." Synthetic forms of vitamin B12, such as the commonly used cyanocobalamin, do not have direct vitamin activity and must be converted by the body into a usable form.

Methylcobalamin & Adenosylcobalamin

Methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin are the two natural, bioactive coenzyme forms of vitamin B12. They can be utilised directly by the body without prior conversion and are characterised by their excellent absorption capacity.

While methylcobalamin is the dominant form in the blood and cell plasma and is required for the important methylation cycle (where it contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism, among other things), adenosylcobalamin is the key form that acts in the mitochondria (the energy powerhouses of the cells).

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA):

Vitamin B12 contributes to:

  • Normal energy metabolism
  • Normal functioning of the nervous system
  • Normal homocysteine metabolism
  • Normal mental function
  • Normal formation of red blood cells
  • Normal function of the immune system
  • The reduction of tiredness and fatigue
  • Cell division

Dosage

Directions

Add 1 drop daily to a drink or on a spoon before meals.

Daily Requirements

The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a minimum intake of 4µg of vitamin B12 per day for adults.

However, the body only absorbs part of the vitamin B12 from food and supplements. Per dose, only about 1–2µg of vitamin B12 can be actively absorbed in the intestine via the special protein "intrinsic factor" and a further 1% of the dose can be passively absorbed via concentration differences in the intestinal mucosa (passive diffusion). Sublingual absorption via the oral mucosa is also predominantly passive. The calculated total absorption is therefore composed of these two factors. In order to also enable absorption via passive diffusion, typical dosages of B12 supplements usually significantly exceed the recommended intake.

According to this formula, Sunday Natural Vitamin B12 Drops 500µg lead to a calculated intake of 6–7µg of vitamin B12 per drop.

Food Supplement

Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of young children.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
