AWARDS

Flos Olei

There are a host of important national and international olive oil competitions across the world from New York to Tokyo and in places traditionally associated with olive oil such as Italy and Spain. Among all of these competitions, the Italian Flos Olei guide is one of the most prominent and has become a point of reference for judging the world's best olive oils. Each year the 500 best oils are given grades out of 100. There are additionally 20 clearly defined award categories ranging from the oil itself, to certain characteristics, the labour, and method of cultivation. The editorial team consists of certified and experienced Italian olive oil tasters as well as their international network.

Olive Farm

Deep in the heart of Tuscany, in rural Siena lies the Val d'Orcia. Its picturesque backdrop of flat plains and almost cone-shaped hills has been inspiring artists of the School of Siena to create beautiful landscape paintings since the Renaissance. Since 2004, the Val d'Orcia has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Villa Magra has been the residence of the Franti family olive farm since 1958. It is located on the slopes of the Amiata mountains above the picturesque Val d'Orcia valley and covers 65 hectares of land including around 15,000 olive trees. Family-owned from the beginning, the Frantoio Franci olive farm has been focusing on high-quality extra virgin olive oils since the late 1990s, and has won the Leone d'Oro award three times since 1999.

Cultivation & Processing

The olives for Franci Villa Magra Grand Cru come from Collina di Montenero d'Orcia near Grossetto, Tuscany and are cultivated at an altitude of about 350-450 metres, sustainably and without pesticides. The harvest is carried out by hand and mechanically early in the second half of October, when the olives are still fresh and green.

Villa Magra Gran Cru

The evolution of the brand's production philosophy helps it to develop new goals, allowing the concept of Cru to take shape. In 2000, Villa Magra Gran Cru was born, an oil produced in Chiusello, a tiny area of the olive grove where soil and vegetation have very special characteristics.

This particular olive oil is the result of careful selection and attention, characterised by its elegance, softness and aromas, as well as an exceptional chemical framework.

Villa Magra Gran Cru is produced only in the best vintages and is marketed only in numbered bottles with a maximum quantity of 2,100 litres.
