Flos Olei

There are a number of important national and international olive oil competitions around the world, be it in New York, Tokyo or in the countries of origin such as Spain and Italy. However, among all the competitions, the Italian guide Flos Olei stands out. It can be considered the best reference in judging the world's best oils. Every year, the 500 best oils in the world are individually rated here with scores. Within 20 clearly defined categories, various category awards are also given, either for oils, characteristics or also for the work and methods of the farms. The editorial team consists of certified and experienced Italian olive oil tasters and their international network.

Olive Farm

Almazaras de la Subbética is one of Spain's leading agricultural cooperatives, formed in 2007 by Francisco Serrano from the merger of two farms, both of which already had over 60 years of experience in olive oil production. The secluded farm is located in the beautiful Sierras Subbeticas National Park on steep and rugged terrain, some 600-800m above sea level. Only by using the most modern methods and technologies was it possible to develop this into one of the best olive farms in the world.

Region and Processing

The mountainous Sierras Subbéticas region in the province of Córdoba is a huge natural park surrounded by the plains of Priego, Alcaudete, Córdoba and Antequera. It consists of two mountain ranges: the Cabra Mountains in the north and the Sierras of Rute and Horconera in the south; both are separated by the Carcabuey Corridor, which is filled with olive groves. The cultivation area of Almazaras de la Subbetica is located here, in an area with high rainfall and a treacherous terrain, resulting in few possibilities for automation, necessitating investment in innovative and efficient harvesting techniques.

The olive oils of Almazaras de la Subbética are among the most popular in the Spanish province of Córdoba and are considered emblematic of this region. With its 12,500 hectares of land and 1,500,000 trees, the farm distributes products from an association of cooperatives involving around 4,000 families, including the most awarded olive oil: Rincón de la Subbética.

Storage
