Awards

Flos Olei

There are a host of important national and international olive oil competitions across the world from New York to Tokyo and in places traditionally associated with olive oil such as Italy and Spain. Among all of these competitions, the Italian Flos Olei guide is one of the most prominent and has become a point of reference for judging the world's best olive oils. Each year the 500 best oils are given grades out of 100. There are additionally 20 clearly defined award categories ranging from the oil itself, to certain characteristics, the labour, and method of cultivation. The editorial team consists of certified and experienced Italian olive oil tasters as well as their international network.

The Tuscan Frantoio Franci is one of the consistently best rated olive oils in the Flos Olei guide with a grading between 98 and 99 points, depending on year.

Region and Processing

Location, Cultivation, Processing

Deep in the heart of Tuscany, the Val D'Orcia is tucked away in the region of Siena. The picturesque landscape with flat plains and captivating rolling hills has inspired artists since at least the Renaissance to create beautiful paintings. The Val D'Orcia became a UNESCO World Culture Heritage Site since 2004.

The Villa Magra has been home to the olive farm of the Franti family since 1958. The farm is located on the slopes of the Amiata Mountains above the Val D'Orcia and encompasses over 65ha with approximately 15,000 olive trees. As a family-operated farm, Frantoio Franci made a commitment to producing the best extra virgin olive oils that have won the Leone d'Oro Award on 3 separate occasions since 1999.
