Finest Origin - Highest Grade

This special frankincense oil is extracted from the resin of wild-growing Boswellia sacra trees. Commonly known as Hojari, this precious resin is wildcrafted in the Dhofar Mountains, where the Boswellia trees benefit from the arid microclimate. Here, the mountain range provides a natural barrier to the monsoons which reach the tip of the Arabian Peninsula during the summer months. Our experienced suppliers extract the resin by hand, carefully making an incision into the bark of the wild Boswellia trees and harvesting as required. The essential oil is slowly hydrodistilled on site in small batches using a traditional copper distillation apparatus.

Farm

We source this essential oil from a small, independent company which specialises in harvesting indigenous Boswellia sacra frankincense in Oman. Using exclusively fresh, wildcrafted plant materials, the essential oil is obtained via a slow and gentle distillation process process using traditional Portuguese copper stills. Within these handcrafted stills, the frankincense resin is distilled using gravity. This method reuses the cooling water and waste produced by the distillation process, making it a highly sustainable technique.

FRANKINCENSE

A member of the balsam family (Burseraceae), Boswellia sacra, commonly known as the frankincense tree, is native to the Arabian Peninsula. The frankincense trees of Oman enjoy the dry desert climate, where they are shielded from summer monsoons by the Dhofar Mountains but still benefit from cool breezes rolling over the mountain peaks during the monsoon season. The small deciduous tree has a sturdy trunk and flaky, papery bark. At the end of each branch, long dark green leaves are interspersed by small white and yellow flowers, which form clusters up and down their stems. The coveted frankincense resin is obtained by making a small, shallow incision in either the trunk or branches. The resin flows out as a milky substance which hardens upon contact with air and is harvested by hand as required. Hojari resin has been considered among the most beautiful, complex and delicately scented incense for thousands of years, with the highest quality resin traditionally reserved exclusively for Sultans.

Aroma

The fragrance of this essential oil is fresh and slightly green, with fleeting herbaceous notes reminiscent of sharp green apples. The crispness is softened by rich, sweet, woody and balsamic base notes. This oil helps to slow down and deepen the breath; it is helpful for meditation and yoga and can inspire inner reflection. The centering fragrance promotes feelings of emotional stability, courage, inspiration, determination and acceptance.
