The milky gum resin is carefully collected by hand throughout the year. Steam distillation takes place from the dried resin, resulting in this fine-aromatic oil. The company was founded in the early 20th century and has cooperation partners worldwide, small to large farms, where the plants' origin and quality are well monitored. The essential oils are extracted on site either by gentle steam distillation in a stainless steel tank or by cold pressing. The first certified organic products date back to 2001.

The frankincense tree (Boswellia) belongs to the balsam family (Bruseraceae). Native to the arid regions of Africa, Arabia and India, this plant species grows in barren regions between rocks and cliffs at altitudes of up to 1,200 metres. Boswellia rivae, native to south-eastern Ethiopia, north-eastern Kenya and Somalia, is a shrub or small tree with pink flowers and a height of up to 7 metres. The yellowish-grey bark comes off the trunk in small papery segments. The incense resin, olibanum, which has been praised since ancient times, is obtained from the milky gum resin by air-drying. The resin of Olibanum rivae is highly sought after because of its sweet aroma.
