Folic acid does not actually occur in nature, strictly speaking. Conventional folic acid, which is still used in many food supplements, is an artificial, synthetic product which cannot be used directly by the body; it must first be converted into folate in order to be bioactive. Critically, this conversion cannot always proceed in the body without issue, as a number of cofactors and enzymes are necessary for it to occur.
Our plant-based folate contains the full spectrum of natural folates from lemon peel, supplying this essential vitamin in the same forms and proportions as found in nature. The natural folates are extracted from the peels of nutrient-rich Indian lemons (grown without the use of plant protection products), ensuring that the natural purity of the raw material are preserved in the nutrient extraction: the folates are dissolved from the lemon peels via a particularly gentle water extraction and are thus guaranteed to be free from further solvents and other chemical additives.
The only other ingredient is premium gum arabic, cultivated without the use of plant protection products. In contrast to microcrystalline cellulose, a widely used synthetic filler often mixed with nanoparticles, gum arabic is a natural, fibre-rich food. Our fair trade gum arabic is climate neutral and is sustainably cultivated to conserve resources.
For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.
