Established in 1997, Azmaya (東屋) is a Japanese homeware brand that collaborates with traditional artisans across the country to create modern, functional tools for everyday life.
These chopsticks are handcrafted at Aizawa Wood Works (四十沢) who have specialised in creating Kiji – the wooden substrate of traditional Urushi lacquerware – since 1947. Aizawa is based in Wajima, Ishikawa prefecture, an area with a rich Urushi tradition and its own eponymous lacquerware style: Wajima-nuri.
