Tea Farm

Oregano comes from the wild mountain meadows of the Rhodope Mountains at an altitude of 1800m. The terroir is world famous as the home of the legendary Mursalski Mountain Tea. The oregano was gently taken by hand from the idyllic nature of the Rhodope Mountains as a wild collection. It was then air-dried and processed by the regionally based, small family business, protected in the shade.

Origan

Oregano is originally native to the Mediterranean region. It grows here in warm locations on calcareous substrates. Botanically, it belongs to the genus of the Dost from the family of the labiates (Lamiaceae). Oregano is characterized by its aromatic scent and sweet taste. Oregano also knows how to impress visually, especially at flowering time. It then shows itself with beautiful reddish-purple overflowing branches and flowers. Oregano or dost was already known to the ancient Greeks as a versatile, very warming means and was used to treat a variety of ailments.

Laboratory Tests

We go to great lengths to identify the finest organic tea farms across the world’s most celebrated terroirs. All our teas are sourced directly from the farmer and, with a few exceptions, are certified organic or come from pesticide-free farms. Each batch of tea for every harvest is tested for pesticides and other pollutants in an independent German lab to ensure they meet our strict quality standards as well as HACCP food safety requirements.

Cultivation & Processing

This top oregano tea comes from the world famous Rhodope Mountains above the mountain villages of Trigrads (population 640) and Muğla in the Mursalitsa region, in the very south of Bulgaria right on the border with Greece. The beautiful, remote terroir owes its fame to the legendary "tea of the centenarians" , the Mursalski mountain tea, of which it is the endemic home.

The oregano grows wild in its natural habitat at an altitude of about 1800m in prime location. It is taken by family members of our producer by hand in the wild gently as wild collection. It can not be more natural and of higher quality. After harvesting, the plants are dried in the most gentle way in the air, hanging in the shade, and then packaged for us.
